2026-08-11 Hardware maintenance in Nürtingen

On August 11, 2026, we will perform a hardware replacement in Nürtingen. This will affect all dormitories on site, specifically Sudetenstraße 125, 127 and 129, as well as Schelmenwasen 10.

The maintenance will begin at approximately 9:00 AM and the hardware replacement will continue throughout the day until the evening. There may be intermittent outages, but these should be resolved within about 30 minutes per section each. If you encounter any issues either during, before or after the maintenance, please contact us via the ticket system or in person if you see us on site.

If everything goes according to plan after the hardware replacement, everything should return to normal operation, and a synchronous throughput of 1 Gigabit should be achievable.

We have started replacing the hardware in your building with new equipment that has Gigabit capabilities. We’ve been working on it since 4 AM this morning; it should hopefully be finished by around 10 AM. After that, you should be able to browse the World Wide Web without any interruptions again.

2026-07-19 Pestalozzistraße 41 | Outage & Maintenance

Some of you have been offline for four days because one of our old switches has failed. Due to the exam period and the resulting circumstances, we are unfortunately only able to replace all of the hardware with new equipment for you on Sunday evening. We no longer have any old hardware in stock for replacement and we also no longer install it.

If everything goes according to plan, we should start around 6 p.m. and be finished around 10 p.m. There is always a possibility of slight delays due to unforeseen events.

We will work through the switches one by one. Because of where the switches are located in your building, you will probably see us. Feel free to talk to us if you have any questions or are interested in what we are doing. We also welcome new members or helpers in Reutlingen, which might help things move a bit faster if something fails.

Update:

We are done, for the most part. There is stil one part of the building missing. We will be back some other day, to change our hardware out there too.

2026-05-25 Precautionary switch upgrade in Geislingen

Tomorrow on 2026-05-25 we will exchange the Alcatel switches that we installed in 2021 in Kaiser-Wilhelm-Straße, which were already old at the time but nevertheless capable of Gigabit Ethernet, by new MikroTik devices.

There will be brief interruptions of service.

For us, the new hardware is vastly better to manage and makes our network future proof. We also hope to resolve some issues for a few of you Geislingen residents that had connectivity problems in the last weeks.

2026-04-12 Hardware swap | Maintenancework in Hohenheim

In Hohenheim, we’re moving forward again: on April 12, 2026, we will replace the old hardware in three buildings, which should result in an “improvement” to the internet connection.

The affected buildings are Fruwirthstraße 11 and 13, as well as Welfenstraße 80.

  • The work will start at approximately 2:30 PM and last until about 6:00 PM.

We will work through the buildings one by one. Depending on the number of connections, the internet outage may last between 30 to 60 minutes. (For some, it may be shorter—depending on where your port is on our switches. So don’t be surprised if your neighbor gets their internet back before you do.)

On Wednesday, March 11, 2026, we will replace the old switches with new ones at Fichtenweg 3. This may cause brief internet outages in the building or on individual floors.

We will start at around 3 PM in the basement and work our way up through the floors.

Feel free to approach us if you see us.

Update:

We have finished the replacement in your building.
If you have a gigabit-enabled device, you should be able to use 1 gigabit synchronously.

2026-02-07 Post-processing Total failure

After yesterday’s outage, we are fixing some smaller problems.

We cannot clearly name the cause of the error yesterday. What is certain is that our batteries should buffer power outages for 30–45 minutes. Instead, they switched on and off many times per second for a very long time until they were exhausted after several hours.
Now the devices need to be replaced.

Without power, our hardware shut down at around 9 p.m., and our network went offline.

Until about 1 a.m. today, work was done on site to fix the problem, and in the end power was brought from another room into the server room.

Work started again at 9 a.m. today. We are setting everything up again and are looking for the cause of the loss of the connection to Reutlingen.

We may update this article if necessary.

Update 3 p.m.: Welcome back Reutlingen and Hechingerstraße!

2026-02-11 Hardware replacement in Franzviertel & Eugenstraße

On Wednesday, February 11, 2026, we will be replacing the old network switches with new ones in your dormitory. This will result in temporary interruptions to your internet connection.

Schedule: We will start in the afternoon at Eugenstraße 57/1, 57/2, and 57/3, then proceed to Landkutschersweg 10, Provenceweg 7, and Provenceweg 9.

We’ve completed everything, and it should now function normally.

2026-01-08 Maintenance Hibuka in the Franz Quaters and Eugenstraße

TüNet is measuring a line for us, so you will be briefly offline. Start: 10:30 a.m.

Update: Finished testing and upgrade of the connection at 12:00.

Update 15.01.2026: Unfortunately, connection quality has deteriorated again since yesterday evening, resulting in packet loss. We are working on a solution.

Update 16.01.2026 13:10: We have replaced a component. The issue should now be fixed. We will address the underlying problem with the fiber provider during the week.

Update 29.01.2026: TüNet will measure the connection again tomorrow, 30.01.2026, beginning at 8:00 am. All dormitories of the French quarters as well as Eugenstraße will be affected by a short internet outage.

2025-12-21 Preventive switch upgrade in Schwerzstraße

In Schwerzstraße 2, one switch has been showing unusual values in our monitoring for some time. To avoid it failing over the holidays, when we might not be able to arrange a replacement or repairs at short notice, we will carry out a preventive upgrade to our current network equipment.

We plan to leave Tübingen on Sunday at around 12:00. Accordingly, we will arrive in Hohenheim during the afternoon and start the work there.

Please expect at least two hours of work. During this time, the network will be unavailable several times for short periods. We will update this blog post as soon as the work is completed.

If anything is still open after the upgrade, we will probably be able to follow up on Monday or Tuesday. But please contact us immediately if anything does not work after the upgrade.
